Sunrise, FL - Tennis
Enterprises announced today that it has reached an agreement with
BMW North America and the Select South Florida BMW dealers for the
title sponsorship of the Sunrise stop of the Association of Tennis
Professionals (ATP) Challenger Series, formerly the Pro Tennis World
Open, and newly titled the BMW Tennis Championship.
The tournament which successfully made its debut in Broward County
last year will be held March 13-19, 2006 at the Sunrise Tennis Club
in Sunrise, FL.
Jorge Ibarra Account Supervisor for Publicis Groupe who is a representative
for the Select South Florida BMW Dealers (Lauderdale BMW in Ft Lauderdale
and Pembroke Pines, Vista BMW and South BMW) explained that their
decision to become the tournament’s title sponsor was influenced
by the success the tournament has enjoyed since inception and the
fact that the tournament is the only hard court event scheduled
before the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami. “In addition, and from
a marketing standpoint, tennis is a powerful, fast, and exciting
sport; characteristics that are very much attuned with our line
of products.”
Tournament Director Gabe Norona indicated that this agreement with
BMW North America adds prestige to a tournament that is fast becoming
a favorite among the ATP players, bringing the quality of competition
to a higher level. “Since it started two years ago, as the
Pro Tennis World Open – Now the BMW Tennis Championship- has
always attracted a strong field thanks to its prime scheduling between
the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells and the NASDAQ-100 Open in
Miami”. Last year’s competitors included American favorite
Robby Ginepri, Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia, and Russia’s Igor
Andreev, all currently ranked in the top 30 players in the world
as well as the Australian sensation Mark Philippoussis , a former
Wimbledon finalist.
For 2006, the BMW Tennis Championship will again draw a remarkable
roster of world-class players. The ATP allows the tournament to
recruit top 50 players, and offer wildcards to 10 players, ensuring
an impressive and competitive field. In addition to the $100,000
prize money plus hospitality expenses, players also see in the hard-court
tournament an opportunity to warm-up for the Nasdaq-100 Open which
is the sport’s most important tournament outside the Grand
Slams.
The tournament’s home, the Sunrise Tennis Club is the premier
facility in South Florida. The Club is enhancing its tournament
capabilities with a $3.5 million expansion that has been funded
and is in the design phase and will include a new tournament court
in a green park-like setting. The Sunrise Tennis Club is located
at 9605 West Oakland Park Boulevard, Sunrise.
Advance ticket sales for the 2006 BMW Tennis Championship will
begin on February 1st.
