(SUNRISE, FL) - There’s a new pro sports team in South Florida: the Pro Tennis World Open and Sports Talk 790 “The Ticket” radio!

Broward County’s only professional ATP tennis tournament, the Pro Tennis World Open, announced today that Sports Talk 790 “The Ticket” has joined the City of Sunrise as Presenting Sponsor for the event, March 13-20 at Sunrise Tennis Club in Sunrise, Florida.

Top fifty ATP stars have already signed to play in the tournament, and the main draw will be officially announced next week. Last year the PTWO attracted a Masters Series level field, with an initial cutoff of 76. Players included current #5 Swedish phenom Joachim Johansson, who beat U.S. star Andy Roddick at the 04 U.S. Open; world #10 Belgian Olivier Rochus; #28 Mario Ancic (CRO), who played in the 04 Wimbledon semi-finals; and #12 Guillermo Canas of Argentina. Last year’s PTWO singles winner, Austrian Jurgen Melzer, is currently ranked #22.

This year the field is expected to be even stronger, according to Tournament Director Gabe Norona; and attendance will increase at the event’s new venue, Sunrise Tennis Club in West Broward County. “We’ve had a whole year to publicize our tournament, and our partnership with Sports Talk 790 The Ticket is key to getting the word out,” Norona says. “We’re committed to giving fans what they want – the world’s greatest tennis players, an exciting venue – and excellent regional media coverage, with Sports Talk 790 taking the lead."

“We are very proud to be a partner with the Pro Tennis World Open, as one of South Florida’s premiere tennis events,” said Jon Weiner, General Manager Sports Talk 790 The Ticket. “Because of Pro Tennis World’s involvement, this event is guaranteed to be a success!”

Sports Talk 790 The Ticket AM radio combines local and national sports programming 24 hours a day, with shows hosted by some of the most recognizable and respected sports names in South Florida, including Joe Rose on the drive-time morning shift. Rose will helm a live broadcast from the Pro Tennis World Open during the semi-finals on Saturday, March 19th. Rose has entertained South Florida audiences with his blend of humor, energy, knowledge, and passion for years – as sports anchor for WTVJ-NBC 6, in locker rooms, and on the “Joe Rose Show” on Sports Talk 790 The Ticket.
