SODERLING CAPTURES SINGLES TITLE AT 2009 BMW TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP

Sunday March 22, 2009RobinSoderlingSWEWinner2009-small

Sunrise, FL --Robin Soderling was on a mission this week and he accomplished what he came to do at the BMW Tennis Championship. He regained his confidence and claimed his first title in 2009 defeating top seed Tomas Berdych 6-1, 6-1.

As the No. 26 ranked player, Soderling expected to be playing this week deep into the late rounds of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells (CA) and then off to Key Biscayne for the Sony Ericsson. After earning a first round bye he lost his opening round match to Nicolas Lapentti and his plans took a major turn. Instead of third round match in California, he was off to the BMW Tennis Championship and needed to win three qualifying matches to earn a spot in the main draw.

Rain, Rain and More Rain ...Semifinals & Finals Set for Sunday

Showers rained on Sunrise postponing almost the entire schedule of matches scheduled on Saturday.

Set for Noon, the teams didn't take the court until 1:30pm. Ten minutes into the match the rain returned creating the first of three rain delays. The match started and stopped two more times before coming off the court for good at 5:45pm. When the day's action was called, Butorac and Reynolds were up 7-5, 6-6 (4-5). The match will resume at 11:00am on Sunday with Butorac and Reynolds serving.
