Rhythms and Ragtops Rev Up Championship Weekend

As frequent, pleasant breezes stirred the air during the final matches of the 2010 BMW Tennis Championship, the near-capacity crowds were treated not only to the drama of the matches unfolding on court, but to the entertainment provided in between as well. Three main events, in addition to the exciting matches, drew in the crowds.

Above the Court: The Fan’s Perspective

Just prior to Noon on Championship Sunday at the 2010 BMW Tennis Championship the two singles finalists and two doubles finalist teams were preparing for their repsective battles to cap off the week-long tournament. At the same time, couple thousand of people began arriving at the Sunrise Tennis Club to watch and display their appreciation for the skills and determination these athletes will show as they fight to the finish. These are the fans.

Mayer Beats Simon Convincingly to Capture BMW Tennis Championship

singles_winner_2010Eighth-seeded Florian Mayer (GER) mixed deft touch with powerful groundstrokes to upset second-seeded Gilles Simon(FRA) in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, at the BMW Tennis Championship, winning the tournament for the first time and capturing his second title of the year.

Damm and Polasek Stun Top Seeds in Championship Match

doubles_winnersWhen Jimmy Van Alen introduced the tiebreak to the tennis world in 1965, he predicted that matches were going to become much more exciting. Everyone who watched the doubles final today on Stadium Court at the 2010 BMW Tennis Championship would agree that Van Alen's invention was a major success.
